Make sense of your electricity bill
Start with the period and readings, then review the charges and payment deadline.
1. Account and billing period
Confirm the name, service address, Reference No., Customer ID, tariff category, and billing month. Compare bills for equivalent periods before deciding that consumption has risen.
2. Meter readings and units
The difference between current and previous readings, adjusted by an applicable meter factor, gives a basic consumption estimate. Corrections and other billing adjustments can affect the billed units.
3. Charges
- Energy charges: depend on the applicable tariff and consumption. A single unit price may not describe the entire bill.
- Adjustments: fuel-price or other adjustments can relate to a different period. Read the exact label and amount.
- Fixed charges, taxes, and levies: depend on your account category and the rules applying to the bill. Do not assume every charge applies to every customer.
- Arrears: amounts carried forward. Compare them with your payment receipts if a payment seems missing.
4. Due date and payable amount
Use the due date and before/after-due-date totals on the actual bill. Check the bill shown by your bank or payment provider against the same reference number before confirming a payment.
If something looks wrong
Note the exact billing month, reading, charge, or transaction in question. Keep a copy of the bill and any receipts, then contact GEPCO through an official channel. This site cannot alter an account or resolve a billing dispute.
